Big hats and little things

As the cliché goes, “good things come in small packages”. There is definitely some sentimental truth to this statement. Think about all those miniature sized things - mini cars, mini stationary, etc. Or what about baby air force ones, corduroy baby GAP jumpers, baby ducks, baby cucumbers, babies... Maybe your paternal instincts or biological clock havn’t started ticking yet, but you have to admit when it comes down to it, everything for the little peeps are tres cute; even when the adult version doesn’t pack much “aww”someness.

3 Macarons recently went perusing in the First Canadian Place tunnel. Sidebar: if you have never ventured in the underground it is a definite MUST DO for anyone downtown Toronto. Check it out! If you’re ever down there during Fri morning rush hour you will be amazed as to how many people line up for baked goods. We couldn’t help but notice a hurried woman holding onto the hand of what appeared to be a three year old boy. The poor little guy looked sleepy. His head was droopy. His eyes were half shut as he dragged his clunky boots along. They were probably on their way to daycare. What distinctively scored 10 bonus cute points was the giant puffball of a bear hat (fuzzy ears included) that was on this little boy’s head. The hat seriously doubled the size of the kid’s head. To be honest, he looked a little like a bear version bomber man from that video game – Bomber Man. Little person, big hat – CUTE.

Have you ever noticed that mini cupcakes have double the amount of gluttonous calorific icing compared to the ratio of cake (all the more reason to have a bite-sized macaron instead)? Essentially they’re “mini” cakes – *insert cute factor alert. But WHOA, ok, throw in the MINI CUPCAKE and it's almost too much to handle. So why are these mini-mini cakes so popular?

Funny enough before hearing our “bear boy” story, our friend came up with this humorous analogy...

Remember the little cake place in New York, Baked By Melissa? Having more icing on them made them look cuter! Imagine a little kid. would they look cuter wearing a big hat or a little hat? I don’t know where that analogy came from, but I stand by it haha.

We kid you not. She pulled this hat analogy out of nowhere. How “fitting” huh? Well, we can’t guarantee we’ll be upping the size of our hats anytime soon, but we hope you'll come visit us and exchange mini stories one day. Maybe over a few of our macarons? They’re little. They’re cute. They’re largely flavourful. Today we recommend the maple bacon. Savoury and sweet. Just the right size to eat :)
